About the Jag

Just so you know where I’m coming from…

This site essentially involves a running commentary on ideas and subjects I’ve seen or picked up along the way, most of which either really annoy me or utterly annoy me. There are some exceptions here and there (things that I really think are kick-ass awesome), and occasionally I’ll point these out too. I’m generally an optimist, but I’m also a realist.

I grew up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, until I moved to Florida early on for high school. I then went on to complete a double major in Economics and International Affairs at Florida State University. I’d always been drawn to current events and the ongoings of the world, and I figured I’d like a chance to set the world right. I cannot be defined simply as either ‘conservative’ or ‘liberal’ and as such I am not restricted to any one specific ideology. After all, I’m a card carrying member of the ACLU, GREENPEACE, the NRA, among others. I’m a Sikh. I believe in God, and science. I believe in the future, and I’m concerned about the environment. However, I believe in freedom, and I believe in compassion. More importantly, I believe in the resolve of human courage and spirit. I’m a supporter of individual choice and liberty.

I’ve always loved math, and I look at the world through a logical (albeit perplexing) lens. Some things make sense, and some other things make sense to other people. That’s the way the cookie crumbles, and this is how I enjoy the crumbs.

I’m an active commentator of UK politics. I’ve worked from both outside and within Britain’s Parliament, and I very much prefer the view from the outside.

Before that, a long long time ago, in a faraway land called America (Obama wasn’t even a Senator yet!), I’d worked for a number of political campaigns (Clark, Kerry, Clinton, Maddox, and the list goes on) all of which sure as hell exacted a heavy toll on both my personal life and university career. I do tell myself however that ven if I only gained one thing from it all - that there’s always something else to do, something else to learn, and something else to make better - I’ll never regret it. I once tried dabbling in state politics (mostly, within Florida and Georgia), too - to no avail. I was young and naive, I guess.

So I’m now actively considered an “online electioneer” and “new media consultant” (and a fly-by-night economist as well, apparently). I have my hand dipped in a number of projects, including the likes of MessageSpace, RecessMonkey, Labourhome.org, the Continuity of Government Project, and a few other as yet super-ultra-double-top secret projects.

PS: If you’re looking for some help, I’m available for a fee. I promise I won’t be afraid to tell you that content is what matters most when it comes to blogging. Well, content may be king…but distribution pays the king’s mortgage.
